This is a needle felted and hand-embroidered painting. Wool and silk fibres were needle felted onto a wool base, then the details were hand-embroidered. It is a picture of a landscape, based on the beautiful but subtle alvar near the Rideau Lake in Ontario. Alvars grow on limestone plains in Northern Europe and Canada. The juniper barrens near Almonte is another example of an alvar. I use many hand-dyed fibres and threads in my work. The embroidered details were done using Romanian stitch, French knots, drizzle stitch (a three-dimensional stump work stitch), among others. The artwork measures 12" x 9 5/8" and is mounted on artist canvas that measures 16" x 12". Strung with professional hardware and ready to hang. (I don't charge HST)
