Beautiful Nuno Felted Scarf on Hand-Dyed Margilan Silk - Lilacs & Lavender
Nuno felting involves laying unspun wool fibres and embellishments on silk fabric. It is carefully dampened with soapy water and worked by hand until the wool fibres migrate through the silk to become one fabric. The wool fibres shrink during the process creating shirring and a lovely rippled effect on the back.
This scarf is nuno felted onto Margilan rarefied silk. This silk very fine and has an irregular weave due to the traditional methods of production. Hand woven in Margilan, Uzbekistan from individual silk strands, it is almost transparent yet surprisingly strong. We hand dyed this silk fabric with red cabbage which produces a lovely mauve shade.
The top layers of the scarf are made from soft merino wool in shades of lilac and lavender with silk and viscose accents.
This scarf is soft, pliable and drapes beautifully. It measures a generous 14.5" (37 cm) wide by 49" (124 cm) long.
Nuno felt is hand washable in cold water with mild detergent or shampoo, do not wring or twist. Lay flat to dry.
Wool, silk and viscose are all renewable, biodegradable, eco-friendly fibres.
