Beautiful Nuno Felted Scarf in delightful spring shades of mauve, pink, orange and yellow.
The silk background fabric of this scarf was first hand-dyed using cochineal shells to achieve the delicate mauve background. These shells come from a cactus eating insect native to South America. It is eco-friendly, safe and widely used as a food colouring and fabric dye.The top layers of the scarf are made from soft merino wool with silk and viscose accents.
Nuno felting involves laying unspun wool fibres and embellishments on sik fabric. It is carefully dampened with soapy water and worked by hand until the wool fibres migrate through the silk to become one fabric. The wool fibres shrink during the process creating shirring and a lovely rippled effect on the back.
This scarf is soft, pliable and drapes beautifully. It measures a generous 15" wide by 63" long.
Nuno felt is hand washable in cool water with mild detergent, do not wring or twist. Lay flat to dry.
Makes a great gift!
