Pottery Makers Kit

This kit was designed in collaboration with Orange Peel Pottery of Orange, CA. The owner was looking for a way to use her maker's mark on her mugs in a way that didn't require significant touch-up work on the inside of the mug after she pressed her mark into the bottom. While this one is intended for use with mugs, it may have other applications. It should also work well for those potters who apply their mark by hand.

To use, the mug is inverted over the top of the stand and positioned to receive the stamp. The mushroom-shaped top is almost flat to provide support to the inside of the mug against the pressure applied to make the stamp impression. It has a very slight curve to the edges which should match the slight curvature of the inside bottom of most mugs. The intention here is to minimize any touch ups to the inside of the mug after the stamp is applied. 

The top is approximately 2" in diameter with the flat area about 1.75" wide. The stand is about 10" high over all with a base of about 6" diameter. The base has four pre-drilled holes so that the stand can be secured to a work bench with screws if desired. Made from Oak and finished with multiple coats of polyurethane.

Since the stand is intended for use with various size mugs and other items such as vases, there will likely be a space between the base and the rim of the mug or vase. To minimize the space to be filled for support, a series of rings can be employed. The kit also comes with a hand-held mushroom-shaped tool for use when the stand is not practical. The hand held tool can be purchased separately.
